If you need Pest Control in Edinburgh then EES can help. We’ve been dealing with these little blighters for years now, so we know all their tricks and how to get rid of them quickly and efficiently.
Like any city, Edinburgh has its fair share of mice and rats. During the warmer months they generally keep themselves to themselves, but when they decide to make themselves comfortable in your home or business premises then it’s best to act quickly and call the experts: tel:07500162942
Apart from the damage they can cause gnawing through your wiring or pipework, they can also spread some rather unpleasant diseases such as salmonella, hantavirus or leptospirosis for example.
If you leave your unwelcome house guests to their own devices and they really settle in, they will begin making a family of their own. A pair of breeding mice can produce up to 2,000 offspring in just 6 months!

Signs of rats and mice mean you need Pest Control help
Get in touch with us today if you notice any of these tell ‘tail’ signs:
Mouse / Rat Droppings
Mouse Droppings are best described as small, pellet-shaped and dark brown in color with pointed ends. Mice droppings are typically small and about 1/4-inch in length (roughly the same size as a grain of rice). You can normally tell if they are fresh by the colour; newer droppings will be darker and shinier while older droppings will look chalky and dry, although the colouration can vary dependent on their food source. Mice will produce between 50 – 80 droppings a day.
Rat Droppings tend to be darker and similar to mouse droppings, only bigger, measuring 3/4-inch (similar in appearance to a jelly bean). They are found in small groupings, with fresh droppings appearing darker and shinier while older droppings will look chalky and dry. A rat will typically produce between 20 – 50 droppings daily.
Bad Smells
Rats or mice will often leave an unpleasant tell-tale smell behind. So if you notice something smells a bit musty around your kitchen keep an eye out for droppings or even gnawed food packaging. If you’ve ever been near a hamster cage then you’ll understand what we mean.
Rodent Noise
It is not uncommon for a homeowner to hear rodents inside the wall or up in the attic, especially at night. Sounds are most often described as scratching, squeaking, gnawing and scurrying. Sounds like these should be investigated as it likely indicates that you have some type of rodent or infestation.
“I saw a mouse!”
Of course the biggest give away sign you’ve got a rodent problem is when you actually catch sight of the little critters! So don’t just shriek and jump up on a chair – give us a call instead.
If you notice any of these signs then it’s important that you take action quickly to avoid rodents moving in and making themselves at home. Call us now for friendly advice and let us deal with your unwelcome guests.

Prevention is better than cure
Edinburgh Environmental Services can deal with your rodent infestation quickly and efficiently, but it’s even better if you prevent these creatures from making themselves at home in the first place.
So here’s our top tips to prevent unwelcome visitors:
- TOP TIP: Don’t leave food or rubbish lying around your home or garden. It’s like ringing the dinner bell for mice and rats.
- Keep your kitchen cupboard and larder doors closed. Seems obvious, but even the strongest, smartest rodents can’t open doors. Although we have seen them chew through them if they are given the incentive and enough time.
- Feeding garden birds is a great thing to do, especially in the winter. But birds are messy eaters, so try keep the area underneath clear of spilt seeds and bird food.
