Identifying Silverfish
Silverfish are small, wingless insects that often look like tiny flashes of silver.
At just 10–15mm, adult silverfish are minute and can be difficult to see, as they often spend their time in tight hiding places, such as small holes, cracks and crevices in bathrooms, kitchens and other damp rooms.
If you do see a silverfish, you’ll notice they have long antennae and six legs in three pairs down the side of their teardrop-shaped silver/ blue bodies. They also have three small spears on the end of their tails.
Other signs of a silverfish problem include yellow stains on books, paper and fabrics throughout your property, shed skins and fine, pepper-like droppings.

Silverfish might not seem like a massive issues, especially when compared to other insect pests, such as bed bugs and fleas that feed on human blood, or wasps, which have painful stings.
However, silverfish can still be a problem, especially for family homes, museums, libraries or other commercial sites.
Because silverfish feed on book bindings and glue, they can cause significant damage to books, as well as photographs and other paper products. They can also contaminate food, especially dried goods such as rice, pasta and flour.
While they prefer natural items, silverfish will also eat synthetic fabrics, especially if they have food, drinks or human sweat on them. As such, they can be dangerous in laundry rooms as well as bathrooms and kitchens.
